This is a dual purpose install guide. This can be used if you simply need to replace your stock air box if it is broken or cracked. It can also be used to replace your stock air box with an after market aluminum and/or high flow air box. UM Performance was nice enough to supply an aluminum high flow air box for this project.

Step 1 Remove the air box lid by releasing the six retaining clips. This should allow the lid to be pulled off. See image 1

Step 2 Remove the air filter by loosening the clamp and unscrewing the Phillips head screw. Also pull the breather hose out on the right side.See image 2.

Step 3 Remove the 3 mounting bolts located on the right(2) and left(1) side under the rear fenders. See images 3 & 4.

Step 4 Remove the rubber intake boot by loosening the clamp at the carburetor. This step is optional but makes life much easier when you are fitting the rubber boot into the new air box. See iamge 5.

Step 5 At this point the air box should be loose and can be dropped out the bottom and out the rear of the quad. See image 6.

Step 6 You now need to transfer all the hardware from the old box to the new box. All the clips and mounting bolt nuts have to be transferred. See image 7. You can skip this step if you are installing an after market air box.

Step 7 Now you need to fit the intake boot to the new air box. If installing an after market box it may connect to the box slightly different than it did to the stock box. The UM requires a hose clamp where it attach's to the round air filter adapter inside the box. The intake boot also has a groove where it mounts to the box and must be installed properly and seated properly into the air box. See images 5 & 8.

Step 8 Install the air box into position but do not install any bolts at this point. Install the boot onto the carburetor and tighten the clamp. Now you can install the three mounting bolts but do not tighten any of the bolts until all have been started by hand. The UM box uses hardware supplied with the new box. See images 9 & 9A.

Step 9 If using the UM box and their lid, you need to install the velcro to the top edge of the air box. See image 10.
Step 10 Install the air filter. If using an after market box, it may require a different air filter. The UM box requires a K&N 4250 4" filter. See images 10 & 11.
Step 11 Install the lid. If using an after market high flow box, you may need to re-jet your carburetor. See images 12 & 13.

Thanks to the guys at UM Performance for supplying the air box for this project.
